Abstract

Because human character is closely related with his activities and the character of a nurse caring for human beings has great influence upon nursing of her patients, understanding of nursing students' characters can be considered to be useful as
instruction data of nursing education to produse desirous nurses, therefore, the result to have examined, by using MMPI, 155 students who will graduate in 1995 from Junior College of Nursing constituted by two classes of each I (day class) and II
(evening class) is as follow.
1. The whole character measures of the researchees were normal category, and to highest measure of them was Mf in standard measure, and the lowest ones were Sc, Pa, and Pt. In special measure the highest was FRS, and the lowest was DEF, and in
character trait measure the highest was HST, and the lowest was PAR.
2. No difference of character trait between I (day class) and II (evening class) was found, but similar differences to result from active fields among active groups according to each class were found. That is, the differences were Pa and Pt in
normal
measure, and FRS, ASP, SOD, TRT in special measure, and SZD in character trait measure.
3. No difference of character measure according to existence and nonexistence of students' activities was found, but differences in a part of character measure according to active fields among actie groups were found. That is, the differences
were
Pt
and Si in normal measure, lack of LSE and SOD in special measure, AVD and HST in character trait measure.
4. No difference of character measure according to time taken to admission after having graduated from high school was found, but according to scholarly attainment the differences were SOD in special measure, and SZD, HST, OPS in character trait
measure.
5. According to existence and nonexistence of religion similar differences of L and K in standard measure, CYN and P in special measure, OPS and PAG in character measure were found.
When thinking of the result like the above, I found no abnormality from preliminary nurses, researchees in normal category of character measure, but differences in a part of character measure according to students' classes, active domains,
scholarly
attainments, and existence and nonexistence of religion.
Because students are in the phase of natural maturity to be able to mould more harmonious character by external, therefore, I propose that we should extend researchees' range, make longitudinal studies, examine closely multiple variables to have
an
effect on nursing students, establish and practice the strategies of nursing education for affective domain, and inspect the effects.
